Human rights and environmental advocacy in the Mekong region often lives in legal filings, policy reports, and case updates - formats that rarely reach general audiences or move them emotionally. Meanwhile, many of the people doing this work live in contexts where speaking out carries real political risk, and their stories are actively silenced.
- Amplify the voices and life stories of EarthRights School alumni working as grassroots human rights and environmental defenders across the Mekong region
- Humanize legal and policy advocacy by grounding it in the personal journeys and convictions of the people carrying it out
- Create a platform for stories that are usually silenced, generating meaningful and long-lasting dialogue
- Build donor and public understanding of EarthRights' training model and its ripple effects across communities
- Position EarthRights School alumni as leaders and experts in their own right, not just beneficiaries of the program
- Filmed, produced, and edited 8 profiles over two years, plus filmed and co-produced 2 additional profiles later completed by the team after my departure
- Alumni independently used their videos as fundraising tools for their own grassroots organizations
- One profiled alumnus in Myanmar was imprisoned for his activism; after his video was shared throughout his social network, it helped rally public support, with hundreds reportedly turning out to protest for his release
